Tarn Shelf/Lake Newdegate/Twilight Tarn and Lake Webster
This full day circuit walk starts at Lake Dobson in the Mt. Field National Park and traverses the spectacular Tarn Shelf, returning via the lower lakes or vice versa. Allow 6 – 7 hours to complete the walk in good weather conditions. The tarns are often frozen in winter and the track can be slippery in places, or obscured by snow. This walk is very popular in Autumn when the leaves of the native deciduous beech Fuscospora gunnii, (named Nothofagus gunnii until 2013) changes colour.
To protect the rare and sensitive alpine vegetation in the area, please stay on the formed tracks.
