Orielton Lagoon

Orielton Lagoon is part of Pitt Water, a wetland of international significance, recognised as both a Tasmanian Nature Reserve and an international Ramsar site.

The wetland is home to many resident Tasmanian shorebirds and seabirds, including Australian Pied and Sooty Oystercatchers, Red-capped Plovers, Caspian terns and Silver, Kelp and Pacific Gulls.

Migratory birds such as the Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis), Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica), Pacific Golden Plover (Pluvialis fulva) and Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis), can often be seen during the summer months.
