Craigbourne Dam, Colebrook

Constructed in 1986 to provide irrigation water, the Craigbourne Dam is fed by the Coal River and when full, covers an area of around 200 hectares. It has become a very popular trout fishing destination.

The Coal River catchment area is one of the driest in Tasmania. The dam often fills over winter but levels drop through summer and autumn. When the dam levels are down, the shoreline on the western side is easily accessible, flat and home to many bird species including white-fronted chats, black-fronted plovers and red-capped plovers.
