Flora in Tasmania
Tasmania is home to almost 1,890 known native plant species; 527 of which are endemic to Tasmania (Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment). Tasmania’s island climate, geographic isolation from mainland Australia and varied habitats has resulted in a diverse and unique array of plant species, many of ancient origin – relics from long ago when the island was part of a larger landmass known as Gondwana.
